Abstract

The Canadian healthcare IT industry is a complex and challenging one. Today, however, the industry is facing unprecedented demands with various shadows of controversy. We will explore some basic underlying observations of the industry and its current state. We will dissect the marketplace and look at what is happening to affect the direction the industry is taking and the impact that is having on the industry as a whole. Have we lost sight of the healthcare information technology (HCIT) vision? Does it need refreshing? Has it kept up with the changing marketplace? We will present a few provocative ideas, some radical thoughts and innovative thinking to challenge the current state.
