Distinquished Speaker Seminar Series
Building Locality into the
World Wide Web
Thursday, March 25, 1999
2:30 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Davis Centre, Room 1302
University of Waterloo
Until now, web-site indexes have not had
a universally searchable visual interface. Fine granularity, local
area, interactive, geo-referenced vector maps offer a common
denominator for finding and presenting information. Mapconnects Inc. of
Waterloo is building an inexpensive, easy to use, Internet navigation and publishing
system, for any information that has a spatial dimension.
Using geography as an integrator can
have surprising outcomes. In one of its first applications to build
market share, Mapconnects Inc. developed Point of ViewTM.
This powerful, new high school curriculum-based resource enables
students to capture and illustrate important elements of a communitys
life and build multi-media showcases that can be shared with the world via
the Internet. This approach opens a window on high school education, making students
work useful, practical and beneficial!
Mapconnects Inc. has built a shrink wrap
VAR kit for content-based solutions which operates the Point of ViewTM
model, and will offer a VAR technology-based solution that exploits a
DBMS. Mapconnects applications range from inventory to marketing,
archeology through e-commerce, tourism to zoology.
Fred McGarry will discuss Point of ViewTM model content-based
VAR solutions. He will present strategies for ground up implementation of Mapconnects
as a multi-sector Internet navigation system.
Fred McGarry, founder of Mapconnects
Inc., is the visionary and developer of the Point of ViewTM
Learning Innovation system. Previously, he worked as President of
Ironbridge Realty Corporation, engaged in land use planning and real
estate development. He is an active community leader in health,
environment and cultural heritage issues.
Mapconnects Inc. is an Internet software
startup company based in Waterloo, Ontario. The Mapconnects Internet
navigation system, and related applications developed by Mapconnects
Inc., is based on world leading research by its founders at the
University of Waterloo.
